Richard Lee is an accomplished community leader with a proven record of public service, having represented Burnaby as a Member of the BC Legislative Assembly for sixteen years. He understands the unique opportunities and challenges facing families in our community, and he will work closely with Justin Trudeau to strengthen our middle class.
After first moving to British Columbia in 1971, Richard and his wife Anne married and settled here in Burnaby in 1986, where they raised their three children and have proudly lived ever since. Before being first elected to the legislature in 2001, Richard was a programmer analyst at TRIUMF, Canada’s national particle research facility. He earned a Combined Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Mathematics and Masters of Science in Applied Mathematics from UBC, and attended the United States Particle Accelerator School at UC Berkeley in 1989 and at Harvard University in 1990.
Richard worked to make a difference for our community throughout more than a decade of service in provincial government, where he also served as a Parliamentary Secretary and became the first Chinese-Canadian to serve as Deputy Speaker of the Legislature. He has also dedicated his time to a variety of community organizations, such as the Burnaby District Parents’ Advisory Council, Burnaby Multicultural Society, and British Columbia Heritage Language Association.
Burnaby South needs a proven local champion who understands our community’s needs, and who will never stop working to make life better for our families. Richard Lee will work with Justin Trudeau to strengthen our middle class, grow our local economy, invest in more affordable housing and better transit, and protect a healthy environment for our kids and grandkids.
